Subconscious Symbolism

I was looking at this blog today on my phone and realized that even though I choose this background picture for the raindrops on glass effect in reality it speaks to a much larger issue.  My weight loss efforts and my desire to completely eliminate any credit card debt are like mountains I need to get over.  I must have chosen this image subconsciously because a mountain can symbolically mean an obstacle that has be be overcome and that is certainly true of these two things in my life right now.

But that is the purpose of this blog, to make the changes needed to accomplish these goals in my life right now and to document my efforts so that I can look back on it and see what I have already accomplished when things get tough.  It's an open journal and a means of accountability for me.  But just by looking at the blog I see consciously what was unconscious before--there's a mountain to climb and I've started on my journey.

Getting Started

In nearly 50 years on this planet (that's sounds funny to me actually) I find that it helps me to start over fresh.  I have three things that I'd like to accomplish in the next couple of years: weight loss, paying off my credit cards, and getting a promotion at work.  This blog is devoted to the first of those three things although I may write about the other endeavours too.

I have everything going for me too.  I live in an area of the country where the weather is temperate most nearly every day.  I have a good paying job, I'm relatively smart and pretty decent at what I do.  And, I find that at certain points in my life I crave change which is why I'm trying to get myself promoted (which would most likely involve a move across the country.)

Towards my first objective, I am committing to starting over with this website as my chosen place to journal my thoughts and experiences.  My second objective is to reread Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover to help myself get back on track financially.  The third goal will take care of itself over time.

Here's to getting started!
